Now, I can go on and on about this topic. I grew up trying too hard and then as an adult, entered into the New York workforce - where even the dudes on the street have an extra hustle. Whew-wee!ย The grind is REAL.
After being burned out, sick, mildly depressed a couple of times, I started to take this resting thing more seriously. So here areย a few things that I do that helps me exhale sweetly and then, grind more effectively.
1. Know the number of hours of sleep you need to get. I need 7 hours at least (don't judge me). Otherwise, I am cranky, not focused, less beautiful - it's just a mess. I realize that a lot of people do not need that many hours of sleep. The point is, though, know your hours and be discipline in shutting down daily so that you are most effective in your grind.
2. Figure out a morning routine. This one is about preparing your mind before your day. I struggle with running thoughts and that just zaps energy. It has helped me to meditate, pray, call out the mini-successes of the previous day, and set affirmations for the new day before I get going. Your routine may not look like mines AT ALL. Maybe you write down your goals for the day, exercise, play video games (idk) - but whatever you do be intentional about taking care of your mind.
3. Pick out one day a week where no work gets done. This is HARD but allocating a day for yourself renews your whole situation. Here are some things you can do on your rest day:
- Catch up on sleep
- Talkย with family
- Hang out with friends
- Journal
- Binge-watch tv
- Chill and light a candle like Sweet Exhale!
The sometimes unfortunate reality is that we are human. Our bodies, minds, and souls need tending to. So take care of business but get into the business of rest. It is your secret weapon to a more productive week.
What things would you add to this list? I would love to hear! Share below.
